Who we are
Teaspoon Projects is a London-based curatorial initiative founded by Gigi Surel, dedicated to exploring contemporary storytelling in all its intricate, layered forms. With a focus on collaboration, it creates spaces where emerging and diverse artistic voices converge, fostering dialogue that transcends geographic, cultural, and disciplinary boundaries. Through ephemeral pop-ups and multifaceted programming, Teaspoon Projects delves into the interplay between art and life, amplifying the subtle threads and undercurrents that shape both shared and individual experience.
Teaspoon Projects is committed to building an international, intuitive, and thoughtful community. Its curatorial practice centres on multisensory experiences that invite audiences to connect with visual art beyond sight alone—through sound, smell, and taste. By offering time, space, and additional sensory tools, the projects encourage deeper emotional resonances rather than relying solely on intellectual interpretation.
Why ‘Teaspoon’?
The name Teaspoon Projects carries layered meanings. One reference is an essay by Georges Perec, which urges readers to question the meaning of everyday objects – such as a teaspoon – and to notice the mundane details that typically go unexamined. This attention to the overlooked, the minor, and the intimate informs the projects’ focus on subtle narratives and quiet shifts in perception.
At the same time, the teaspoon functions as a symbol of hospitality and intimacy: inviting people in for tea, sharing ideas and nourishment gradually, one teaspoonful at a time. The name reflects a belief in art as something to be approached slowly and generously, in small measures that accumulate into lasting connection.
